Essential Advice

Backup! Hardly anyone does it. They only think about it when it is too late. I take no pleasure in informing customers that their entire hard drive contents have been lost. A proper backup system is relatively cheap to set up and is very simple to use. Your data is often irreplaceable. Having a backup copy will protect you from losing it.

Your Mac’s hard drive is a mechanical device. Like any other mechanical device it suffers from general wear and tear. We recommend that you replace your hard drive when it is a maximum of 5 years old. If your Mac is on most of the day, everyday, this reduces to 3 years. The logic is very simple. Hard drives are cheap, hardware data recovery is far from cheap.

Time is your enemy here. Shutdown, unplug from mains and/or remove the main battery. Do this immediately!! Don’t even read any further... DO IT NOW!!!

Anything that is spilt into your Mac is likely to contain stuff that will very quickly begin to rot the inside of your Mac. It is essential that you get the Mac to us as soon as possible. The mess inside must be cleaned away. Simply allowing it to dry out for a few days will leave a residue on the internal components that will cause you problems. Even if your Mac seems to have survived, get it to us anyway. You could save yourself a very hefty repair bill.
